SPEF After School Program Adds New Offerings And Extends to Middle School
What are your children doing after the school day? Looking for something fun and enriching on the school campus? SPEF offers opportunities at all three elementary schools, and now at the South Pasadena Middle School as well!
For the Spring semester 2009, SPEF will be offering several popular after school Enrichment classes at the elementary level including Chinese Conversation, Sports Sampler, Exploring Art, Chess, Kenpo Karate and Yoga. New this semester will include classes such as Keyboarding, iMedia and iMovie classes. All classes will include new curriculum - so don’t worry about signing your child up for a favorite class he or she may have already taken.
There are new offerings at the Middle School as well. Chess Master Joe Hanley and Kenpo Karate Instructor Mark Arnott are bringing their programs for 6th, 7th and 8th graders to enjoy. Past students of Mr. Hanley and Mr. Arnott, as well as new students, are encouraged to participate and advance their skills.
Many classes are offered for as low as $10 a class. Applications will be available through the schools, the week of January 12th, and due the week of January 26th. If you have any questions, please contact Joe Felix at (626) 441 – 5810 ext. 1169

Presenting the 5th Grade Musical
SPEF is also taking on the beloved 5th Grade Musical, once again directed and produced by master drama teacher Lynne Olson. While SPEF had always contributed to the Musical, it was never the sole supporter and overseer as it is this year. This is great news for the District as they will be able to use the funds originally allocated for the musical elsewhere in their budget.
This year's performance will be Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka, Jr" with a cast of 73 children. Willy Wonka will be played by Alex Nakagawa, Charley by Jack Wilson, and the Candy Man by Jake Levy. Three performances are scheduled on February 6th-8th, 2009.
